On vacation on the spur of Italy
The Gargano, also known as the Sperone d’Italia, is one of the most visited tourist resorts in Puglia. Its coast, which extends for about 140 kilometers, is the destination of thousands of tourists every year who are enchanted by the golden sands and always crystal clear waters. One of the most beautiful examples is certainly the Baia delle Zagare, in Mattinata, famous for its limestone stacks and its hidden caves. Along the coast you can find small oases and private beaches, such as that of Colombi, surrounded by a luxuriant Mediterranean scrub, and that of Portogreco.
Among the most important centers of this destination we find Vieste, where you can breathe the typical Apulian tradition and get lost among ancient craft shops, small white houses, alleys and squares overlooking the sea, Peschici, known for its Castle where Frederick II had a splendid tower, Monte Sant’Angelo, characterized by a suggestive medieval architecture concentrated above all in the Rione Junno, and Rodi Garganico, a seaside resort par excellence and awarded several times with the Blue Flags. Gargano National Park, the naturalistic pearl of this area. In particular, you can go to the discovery of the legendary Umbra Forest, a biogenetic nature reserve and Unesco heritage located at about 800 meters above sea level. Rich in ancient beech trees, it is ideal for a relaxing walk!
The gastronomic tradition of the Gargano is based on simple but truly genuine products; home-made pasta bread reigns at the table, but also extra virgin olive oil, exquisite fish dishes such as eel soup and various food preserves.
